Your result for The Perception Personality Image Test...

NFDS - The Guide

Nature, Foreground, Detail, and Shape

You perceive the world with particular attention to nature. You focus on what's in front of you (the foreground) and how that is affected by the details of life. You are also particularly drawn towards the shapes around you. Because of the value you place on nature, you tend to find comfort in more subdued settings and find energy in solitude. You like to deal directly with whatever comes your way without dealing with speculating possibilities or outcomes you can't control. You are highly focused on specific goals or tasks and find meaning in life by pursuing those goals. You prefer a structured environment within which to live and you like things to be predictable.

Your result for The What Middle Earth race do you belong to Test...

Wizard

You scored 0% Size & Strength, 82% Morality, 47% Aggression, and 82% Intelligence.

You scored high in morality and intelligence, but lower in physical strength and aggression, which means you're probably a Wizard. Counted among the very wise and (with that one exception) good creatures of Middle Earth are the Wizards, or Istari. Though they appear as old men, the Istari are actually powerful Maiar spirits sent from Valinor to Middle Earth to act as caretakers of the land and guides to men and beasts. Their supernatural heritage means they're also the only line of defense against rogue Maiar like Balrogs. Though only Gandalf, Saruman and Radagast are named through the novels, there are two other Wizards at large in Middle Earth, quietly working to bring tranquility to their surroundings.

Your polar opposite is the Urûk-Hai.

Talyx's surgery...

...went very well. I left her and the Jeef in good spirits about an hour ago. They got all the bits out that they wanted, and none of the bits they didn't. The only bad part was that nobody told us that the surgery was over and she was in recovery until 5 hours had gone by, so J and I had a little extra worrying time. We managed to distract each other fairly successfully until we were able to see her, however, with lengthy discussion of the current state of science fiction and fantasy writing.

Note: The excellence of the University of Michigan Hospital does not extend to the cafeteria.

Your good wishes and thoughts were, and are, much appreciated!

I just completed an online assignment involving creating annotated bibliography entries and am currently trying to decide whether it was utterly and completely, or just completely, (or perhaps just utterly)pointless.

Our professor in Second Language Acquisition Theory class - wait, don't fall asleep yet, this is cool - had a great characterization of school stages in class tonight.

High School - You're spoon fed.
Undergraduate - You choose your food from a stocked refrigerator.
Master's - You go to the grocery store yourself.
Ph.D. - You are expected to produce your own food.

What book are you?

You're Love in the Time of Cholera!

by Gabriel Garcia Marquez

Like Odysseus in a work of Homer, you demonstrate undying loyalty by sleeping with as many people as you possibly can. But in your heart you never give consent! This creates a strange quandary of what love really means to you. On the one hand, you've loved the same person your whole life, but on the other, your actions barely speak to this fact. Whatever you do, stick to bottled water. The other stuff could get you killed.

For [info]laureth, [info]borghalrantipol, [info]talyx, and anyone else who has ever worked in retail...garnered while sitting in the doctor's waiting room.

A young man who worked in retail left to become a police officer. He was asked by a friend how he liked the new job. "Well," he said, "The pay isn't that great and the hours suck, but I LOVE that the customer is always wrong!"

April 7th, 2007

The way it is snowing right now, with large distinct flakes gently falling, reminded me of one of the 'peak experiences' of my life. A rather large number of years ago, B.A. (Before Alix), we lived in a house which had 44 pear trees in front of it, the remains of some earlier orchard. Pear trees leaf out early - the leaves were just beginning to appear - it was April, and snowing like this - and I was sitting in the living room, looking out at the snow and the pear trees and listening to the second movement of Mozart's Piano Concerto #21 (you know, the 'Elvira Madigan' one). I realize that nothing of this shouts 'peak experience,' but it was just one of those perfect moments...
